Decking
Composite Decking Care and Maintenance
Want to keep your composite deck looking brand new? Follow our simple instructions below.
Keep it clean and your BiForm Composite Deck will reward you with years of low-maintenance pleasure. General cleaning with a broom or mop will suffice for most situations, however if you want to give a better clean, please use BiForm Deck Cleaner and scrubbing brush, at least annually.
After any cleaning, hose off with fresh water and use an old towel wrapped around your deck scrub, or a rubber scraper to remove the excess water. On a warm day, the deck should dry with no water marks in a few moments.
Initially, the deck will appear to be leaching and water staining. This is a weathering process that takes around 6 to 12 months to settle down depending on rainfall and the environment. To accelerate this process, scrub the deck down with BiForm Deck Cleaner, after the first summer the colour will have lightened up 10% to 20% and then will remain stable. Being a recycled product, colour variation of up to 8% from board to board can be expected
We suggest a mat under your BBQ to protect from grease stains, and felt protectors under plastic or metal furniture to prevent scratching, gouging, and potential rust stains. Avoid dragging heavy items over the deck as it will scratch. Scratches can be dealt with by giving it a light sand, following the grain of the wood as described below.
If damp leaves are allowed to build up or the deck is in a shaded damp site mould or mildew may develop. This can be treated with 30 Seconds Outdoor Cleaner – new generation (blue label) following the manufacturer’s instructions. For lighter colours situated in damp areas, we suggest 6 monthly or annual spraying with 30 seconds Spray and Walk Away (green label) following the manufacturer’s instructions This will help prevent surface mould from forming.
BiForm Decks, like wood, are susceptible to stains from BBQ grease, oil, and the tannin in some vegetation. The best results are achieved if the stain is treated immediately with absorbent cloths, then apply a degreaser as per the manufacturer’s instructions. Follow up the degreaser with a general clean using BiForm Deck Cleaner or hot soapy water.
Scratches can be removed with a light sand using 60 grit sandpaper, following the length of the plank. The colour and texture changes that occur after this will recede with weathering.
Test any treatment, cleaning products, or sanding on a spare or obscured piece of decking to check for changes first.
Flooring
SPC flooring care & Maintenance
Care for our very durable Biform SPC flooring is best described by a series of do’s and don’ts
Remove loose dirt with a soft bristle broom or vacuum cleaner with a brush or felt head.
Clean with a damp mop for everyday care.
Wash the floor occasionally with a gentle (non-abrasive) floor cleaner - always follow cleaning product instructions and adhere to cautions before use. We recommend the Cider vinegar - one cup to four litres of warm water.
Attend to any spillage immediately.
Do not use detergents, abrasive cleaners or “mop and shine” products. These may leave a dull film on your Flooring.
When using a vacuum cleaner, disengage the beater bar or use the “bare floor” setting to avoid damaging your Flooring.
Highly abrasive scrubbing tools are not recommended as they can damage your Flooring.
Never use ammonia or bleach to clean your Biform SPC Flooring.
Due to high temperatures, steam mops may cause damage.
Make sure furniture legs are smooth and won’t mar your floors. Replace any small, narrow, metal, or dome-shaped glides with smooth protectors that are in flat contact with the floor.
Place heavy-duty furniture casters or cups at the contact points of furniture or appliances you don't often move.
Never push, pull, or drag furniture, appliances or other items across the floor. Always lift and carry.
If you have to slide furniture or appliances, lay a plywood panel on your floor and “walk” the item across the panel.
